FCOA SAILING PROGRAMS
PrerequisitesThis introduction to sailing is designed for FCOA members and you must have passed the 200 meter swim test and you must complete this quiz before you can participate. Ideally you are already an FCOA Freediver before you start this lesson.
If somehow you did end up on this page and you're not an FCOA member yet, then:Register on FCOA.onlineUnder "Digital Training" complete FCOA video quiz 1 till 4FCOA offers low budget sailing lessons, to do so the members have to self-study and finish video quizes before joining. You should refresh your knots from FCOA lesson 4 and your Navigation concepts from lesson 3. You will also have to take responsibility of the boat, after use you will have to wash it, clean it and return it better than you found it. Make sure to report damages and participate in repairs as much as you can.
Caring for boats (hard rules)Wash sand from your feet/slippers before getting in a boat. Sand scrapes all equipment. When tying a boat to the jetty, make sure that it's not banging with other boats or with the jetty it self. When coming close to shore, make sure that the centerboard or rudder doesn't plough into the sand. When storing the centerboard and rudder inside the boat, don't bang it around in the hull. Keep the leading edges smooth.Avoid even the smallest collisions. Hold boats away from each other or place a protective device like a fender. When beaching a boat, first check there are no rocks or other sharp object that can scrape the hull. When placing a boat on a trolley, do it slowly, making sure that the hull does not get dented or scratched.
Mandatory posts on social media #keep_our_waters_cleanFor our sponsored participants it's mandatory to post something on social media after every training day. This post should include the following:State something environmental, something you're doing or wish to do for our planet,Something positive about your coach (This will encourage him and make him feel appreciated)And something about FCOA. Ending with the hashtags #keep_our_waters_clean #FCOA For those that have the means please give your sailing coach a generous tip, so he is happy to come back tomorrow. And donate something to FCOA to keep our platform running (Even when you pay for the boat rental, your coach is not getting paid and the FCOA training system is still at no cost and therefore sponsored)
